Dental implants are permanent prosthetics that replace one or more missing teeth. Made from titanium, implant posts fuse with the bone in your jaw to create a stable foundation for replacement teeth. Implants also have the added benefit of preventing further bone loss in the jaw.
If you’ve lost a tooth due to a sports injury, accident, oral health condition, or any other reason, our dentist at Grant Family Dentistry may recommend dental implants to restore your smile and give you back full oral function. Many patients who have received implants say they wish they’d gotten them sooner!
During the first phase of the procedure, our dentist will insert an implant into your jaw. Implants are made from titanium because this metal is compatible with the body’s tissues and bones. Once the implant is placed into the jawbone, it takes about six months for the bone to grow around the implant's surface in a process known as osseointegration. During this time, a temporary tooth replacement may be placed over the implant.
For the second phase, our dentist will take impressions of your mouth and use them to create a lifelike model of your teeth. This model is used to create a replacement tooth that will match the appearance of your other teeth so that it blends in with your smile. A custom abutment is also designed to attach your new tooth to the implant.
Once the abutment is in place, during the third and final phase of the implant procedure, your new tooth is permanently attached. Your new tooth will look natural and blend in with the rest of your smile!
